[…] Benvenuti nel gamespace.”

February 2021 is the perfect month, starting on a Monday and ending on a Sunday. So today, Feb. 9th, here we are with the 9th episode of NTKOG. All about gaming.

Gamer Theory is a book by McKenzie Wark, published in 2007. It started as a collaboration with The Institute for The Future of the Book and a team of gamers, thinkers and hackers. Every chapter of the book deals with a keyword and a case study: from The Sims to Civilization, Gamer Theory presents videogames as tools for understanding how reality is changing. In a world that is becoming the imperfect copy of a game, digital computer games are the prominent cultural form of our time.
Here are the opening lines of the book: “Ever get the feeling you’re playing some vast and useless game whose goal you don’t know and whose rules you can’t remember? Ever get the fierce desire to quite, to resign, to forfeit, only to discover there’s no umpire, no referee, no regulator to whom you can announce your capitulation? […] welcome to gamespace.”
